Hot Dog Piece 2015
small lit grill, 24 cooked hot dogs via grill ( on kabob skewers), 10 gallons BBQ sauce, metal wash-bin, 24 red and white paper serving dishes placed in circle, down spot, recorded looping of : Ave Maria, (voice, box fan with a plastic bag, laundry dryer, rc-20 , mic, flute). 1 female performer.
The audience is encouraged before the piece begins and while it is happening to be eat hot dogs, labeled “please eat “ ritually placed around the wash bin. The smell of hot dogs and BBQ sauce is present but not necessarily recognizable. The audience can see each other eating hot dogs as the woman enters. She is wearing a robe that she takes off as she steps into the bin of BBQ sauce ( the audience is not sure what substance is in the wash-bin). Ave Maria plays on loop. The woman’s performance score is to bring the BBQ sauce up her legs, into her. She is struck many times by the symbolism she is inside of and is witnessed by the audience in her discoveries.
